Finland Is Represented. Goodentag!
Here is a band that is new to me, maybe not new to you, Nightwish. I have just started listening to them and I found this song. Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal band, from Kitee, Finland, formed in 1996 by song writer/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and guitarist Emppu Vuorinen( you have to love them just for those names). Although Nightwish has been prominent in their home country, their biggest US hit single, “Wish I Had an Angel”, made it onto three US film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour, but they still have not broke in America.
"Amaranth", has an interesting meaning. It means an imaginary, undying flower. Interesting concept.
You know what, I'm not going to say what I think about this song. I want to hear your thoughts. This will really let me see what your thoughts are (SERIOUS comments, not just smart a## remarks). I don't want anyone to comment on others posts this time, I just want your thoughts. After you all comment, I will give you my thoughts on the song and your posts.
Is this a little lazy on my part? Yes, but I enjoy reading your comments, and who cares, my world.

Ok... When I heard it playing in the background last night I thought it was a good song. It's got some catchy riffs and I like the breakdown but I can't really understand what she's saying and it's a bit repetitive
ReplyDeleteThe other thing that I don't like is the video. Don't like is an understatement... I hated it. There is something very black about a mob trying to burn an angel. Ewww.
1- 10, I'd give it a 6
Oonda, Gleepin, Glopin, Glodin. I really can get into this song. Great job with this one JC. The song as alot of great heavy riffing with soft chords backing it to give a great feel. Her voice is pretty cool too. I think the song is about Jesus and the war between good and evil and as the story goes, he dies sinless in an angry mob.
ReplyDeleteI checked out some of there other songs and they are good to. If I were to rate this, I would say a 8.5 to 9.
Keep them coming JC.
WOW!! Great job with this one Conrad, I really thought you did not have it in ya. Gothic metal from Finland. Nightwish comes to town{Webster Theater} quite often with some other symphonic metal bands from Finland, I like this song great guitar riffs the signature synths you here all the time from Finland. I think this band is a must to see live! Finland has got some great bands to check out like Apocalyptica, Sonata Arctica, HIM, to name a few. I think they call this music Operatic metal to. she has a great voice!
ReplyDeleteFauxbia it is Finland they love Gothic things, black is there favorite color! They hate the sun. and it has six months of darkness and six months of sun. they write there songs during the dark days.its a weird country.
ReplyDeleteI am the man Alter.
ReplyDeleteBoy that video is distracting! I might need to listen to it again, but here are my first thoughts... I like the music. It reminds me of Evanescence. (No, not because they are both female rock singers.) I don't know if it's the piano breaks in between, but the music sounds similar and that's a good thing. As far as her voice...I may like her voice in a different style of music, but combined with this song... it didn't work for me. It just felt out of place. However, I love that they're from Finland. Great job, Jason. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteI actually went to Finland twice. Its not that they love dark, they love artistic things. Over there they don't break things into groupings like with music. If it's good, they like it. I think here we have a tendency to classify things like music to much. Like what is the difference between heavy metal and ahrd rock. Just because the distortion is a little heavier, thats what makes it different?
ReplyDeleteLets take a lesson from Europe, just listen, don't classify.
hard rock
ReplyDeleteThey're good, but they're no Dethklok. But then again, who is?
ReplyDeleteOK WHATS NEXT!!
